2025 Ford Expedition – Americans love their big SUVs. Spacious interiors and cavernous cargo areas give families everything they need for the chaos of everyday life. With this in mind, Ford is preparing a major update for the Expedition that should freshen it up in a very competitive market.
The company has been testing the updated three-row SUV for more than a year, and it is expected to debut on October 3. However, the 2025 Expedition will not be a complete redesign. All three rows will receive extensive interior and exterior updates while riding on the same platform and likely using the same powertrain – with an update or two.
2025 Ford Expedition
While it’s hard to call this Expedition a “next-generation” model, Ford is making significant changes to the SUV for the next model year. Here’s what we know about Expedition 2025 so far.
2025 Ford Expedition Debuts: Everything You Need To Know
A three-row Ford Expedition debuted in 1997, positioned above the two-row Explorer. The company launched the fourth-generation Expedition for 2018, and it shares its T3 platform with the Ford F-150 and Lincoln Navigator. The latter also takes a change for 2025.
Spy photos capture the refreshed SUV with very little camouflage and an exposed face, revealing a completely new dashboard with a cleaner and sleeker look. Designers replace the C-bracket lights with smaller units that protrude into the grille. The tapered daytime running lights enclose the new headlights and extend below the grille.
The rear will get new taillights with updated graphics and a new bumper, while the Expedition may get a new opening door. Other changes will include a new wheel design, a unique choice of trims and possibly a few new exterior colors.
We expect the cabin to get a major graphics update. There will be a large digital driver display mounted on the dash, similar to what Lincoln brought to the 2024 Nautilus, but not as wide.

A smaller touchscreen will sit in front of the driver’s display, likely a 12.3-inch screen from Ford and flanked by vertical air vents. It will serve as the interface for Ford and Lincoln’s new digital experience software, which also arrives on the 2025 Explorer.
Below that will be a row of buttons, including a rotating gear knob next to what appears to be the media volume knob. The new software will give the Expedition access to the Google Play Store, smartphone mirroring, fuller Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and more.
It is unclear whether Ford will make significant changes to the powertrain with the updated Expedition. The current SUV has a single engine with three tunes. The entry-level model uses Ford’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
The SUV is also available with the Platinum Series 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, which produces 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque in one tune, and 440 hp and 510 lb-ft in another. Ford mates all three engines to its 10-speed automatic transmission.
New 2025 Ford Expedition Redesign
The Blue Oval can expand the Expedition’s powertrain lineup with a hybrid option. The automaker announced earlier this year, amid declining EV sales, that it will offer a hybrid version of every model by the end of the decade.
Ford already offers a hybrid F-150, which uses the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine as the Expedition. The pickup combines it with a 35.0 kilowatt electric motor for a total output of 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque, which can be a worthy replacement for the top-spec gasoline engine while increasing economy model fuel general.
The 2025 Ford Expedition will likely start in the $50,000 range. The 2024 Expedition starts at $57,625 for the entry-level XL STX model (all prices include the $1,995 destination charge). It is one of six available consisting of Timberline, King Ranch and Platinum trims.
Ford offers a larger, extended version called the Max on almost every trim except the XL STX and the off-road-oriented Timberline for 2024, which starts at $73,800. It is about a foot longer than the standard model, increasing passenger and cargo space. At the top of the lineup is the Platinum, which costs $82,795 for 2024. The Platinum Max is $85,795.
Amazing 2025 Ford Expedition Redesign Is Merely Wishful Thinking, Unfortunately
The 2025 Expedition should have similarly expensive pricing and a similar trim lineup. We also expect Ford to continue offering the SUV in its extended wheelbase configuration.
The global debut of the Expedition is scheduled for October 3. Specifically, Ford also lists a debut time of 8:00 PM ET.
If Ford hopes to launch the updated Expedition for 2025, sales will have to start early next year. However, there is a possibility that the 2025 Expedition will go on sale before the end of 2024, with deliveries likely to start by December.

2025 Ford Expedition Is Tougher …and Nicer, Too!
Unveiled late in early October, the 2025 Expedition costs $63,695, including a $1,995 destination charge, and should hit dealers next spring. The price has increased by $6,070 over the current 2024 model.
The current Expedition arrived for the 2018 model year and received an initial refresh for 2022. The 2025 update is much more significant than just a model update. Ford even refers to the Expedition 2025 as a new generation.
It has new front styling with twin headlights and a wide grille with a wraparound light strip that illuminates the headlights and connects to the daytime running lights. Out back, a new split tailgate has been added, where the lower section folds flat and can be used as a seat supporting up to 500 pounds. It even has a seat back that can be transformed into a serving table.
For the interior, the dash has a new, less cluttered design dominated by a 24-inch floating display that integrates a digital gauge cluster. A second screen in landscape position sits in the center of the stack and serves as the infotainment hub. There are several buttons below the screen, along with a rotary gear selector. Google and Alexa voice assistants are also included for interaction with the vehicle.

Seating for up to eight is available, and buyers can still choose between a standard wheelbase and a long-wheelbase Expedition Max. And thanks to the flexible second and third rows, the middle seats of those rows can be folded independently to allow long objects to be carried while six seats remain in place.
What hasn’t changed is the powertrain. The 2025 Expedition carries over the outgoing model’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6. It comes in 400 and 440 hp (440 hp standard on the Tremor and available on the Platinum), and depending on the configuration, it is connected to either rear or all-wheel drive. The only transmission is a 10-speed automatic and the towing capacity is either 7,000 pounds or 9,600 pounds when using a weight distribution hitch.
The Expedition 2025 lineup consists of the Activa, King Ranch and Platinum models, along with the new Tremor. The King Ranch model sits at the top of the line and costs $85,650.
The Trembling costs $83,025, comes with 10.6 inches of ground clearance, 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, skid plates, front skid plate, and additional underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case, and fuel tank. Ford said that the suspension and power steering systems have also been tuned for off-road conditions, and the drive mode selector has been improved with the Rock Crawl model. Electronic trailer driver assistance features are also included.
2025 Ford Expedition Gets More Exciting With Extensive Updates
New to the Expedition lineup is a connectivity package that can be added as a one-time purchase or as a subscription. It adds WiFi along with the Google Play app store and integrated Google Maps.
Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway system is also available on most of the Expedition range and is cheaper for subscribers. In addition to the connectivity package, BlueCruise is also available as a one-time purchase as an alternative to subscriptions.
The related Lincoln Navigator has also been revised for the 2025 model year. The 2025 Navigator debuted in August and will be available for order later this year.
