2025 Ford Mustang Dark Horse – The Ford Mustang has been hit with some big price tags for the 2025 model year, and the flagship dark horse is now as expensive as the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Interestingly, only models with the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 suffered a price increase.
As before, the Mustang starts at $33,515 for the EcoBoost and rises to $41,615 for the EcoBoost Convertible, $39,040 for the EcoBoost Premium and $44,540 for the EcoBoost Convertible Premium. These prices include a $1,595 destination charge.
2025 Ford Mustang Dark Horse
Those looking to pick up the keys to a V8-powered model may be in for a tough shock. The GT Fastback previously started at $44,455 but is now $47,055, up $2,600 from last year. Likewise, GT Fastback Premium and GT Convertible Premium prices have increased by $2,600 to $51,575 and $57,075 respectively. The Dark Horse model followed suit, with prices rising from $2,645 to $64,875, and the Dark Horse Premium now starts at $69,870, or $3,645 more than last year.
2025 Ford Mustang® Gtd Performance Supercar
As impressive as a dark horse, it’s priced directly against the 2024 Corvette Stingray 1LT, which starts at $69,995, including a $1,695 destination charge. The Ford has the power advantage with 500 hp, while the ‘Vette puts out 490 hp through its 6.2-liter V8. Although slightly underpowered, the Chevy accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds, while the Dark Horse needs at least 3.7 seconds. One thing going in the Ford’s favor is that it offers a six-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic, while the Corvette is only available with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It’s not all bad news, as those who pay more for the 2025 Mustang get some extra equipment. For example, a 10-speed automatic is now a no-cost option, previously a $1,595 upgrade. In addition, dual-zone climate control and leather/vinyl seats are standard on the GT Fastback.
But some options have high prices. For example, active exhaust is now $370 higher at $1,595, while optional Brembo brakes are now $300 more than in 2024. Ford calls the new Mustang GTD “a rocket ship for the road.” The limited edition car coming next year is essentially a racing car designed to be driven legally on the road.
2025 Ford Mustang Gtd Is A $300,000 Thoroughbred
If you thought internal combustion cars were on the way out, Ford might beg to differ — even as it sells the Mustang Mac-E crossover and electric pickup truck.
For a nameplate approaching its 60th birthday, the Mustang is as healthy as ever. And with the impending demise of the Chevrolet Camaro and the internal combustion Dodge Challenger, the Mustang reigns supreme as the only model of its kind you can buy.
GTD – named for the International Motor Sport Association’s Grand Touring Daytona racing category – comes from Ford’s engineering division. Three years ago, it started building a stylish and sophisticated machine that would go fast and fast on the world’s road courses. That’s no small feat, but at least Ford’s 2024 Mustang GT3, GT4 and Dark Horse R full-on race cars have provided performance standards that meet, if not exceed, the GTD.

2024 Ford Mustang® Dark Horse™ Premium
Starting with the original 2024 Mustang chassis, the GTD was given its own body, made mostly of carbon fiber to reduce weight. The basic appearance is similar to the Mustang coupe, but only. Below the lower air intake are similar extensions connected to the rocker panels with a downforce-generating splitter. The hood and bulging front and rear fenders, allowing for a 10cm increase in width between the front and rear wheels, feature air vents for cooling the engine and brakes. Below the rear bumper are a pair of large titanium exhaust tips.
In addition to the unique bodywork, a key differentiator is the hydraulically adjustable rear wing that provides additional downforce and braking. The curved shape of the support struts along the roof pillar means that the wing extends behind the bumper.
The GTD’s rear-mounted eight-speed paddle-shift transmission is mated to a transaxle with a differential and axle. Alignment is placed between the rear wheels for better weight distribution and improved cornering stability.

2025 Ford Mustang Gt 5.0
Due to the transaxle position, attendant cooling system and semi-active multi-link suspension with transverse opposed coilover shocks, there is no trunk. Deleting the rear seat allows for some storage space.
Providing the necessary racing performance is a specially developed supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 based on the Shelby GT500 powerplant. Ford estimates the engine will have more than 800 horsepower and a 7,500-rpm-plus redline. It has a unique dry sump oiling system that uses a remote oil reservoir and pump instead of a conventional oil pan under the engine. This greatly increases fuel efficiency and prevents fuel starvation during high-G maneuvers.
Final assembly for the GTD is handled by Multimac in Canada, the same company that builds the limited-edition Ford GT supercar and other Mustang racers. The company is responsible for the dual-mode suspension that lowers the ride height by about four centimeters in track mode.
Finishing touches include Brembo-brand carbon ceramic brakes behind 20-inch aluminum or optional forged magnesium wheels. The width of the tire section is 325 mm at the front and 345 mm at the rear.

The interior features Recaro-branded racing-style seats in suede and leather. A digital gauge cluster and separate infotainment screen are also standard, as are a console-mounted rotary shifter and steering column-mounted titanium paddle shifters.
According to Ford’s estimates, the GTD will start in the US$300,000 range (Canadian pricing has not been announced). The addition of a rear wing and magnesium wheels and the available carbon fiber aerodynamic underbody tray and carbon fiber front and rear body pieces increase costs, as do special customer color requests.
However it’s equipped, the result promises to be an exceptionally fast pony car unlike anything else on the road or track.

On September 16, 2024, Ford released more details about the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD. Initially, Ford said the GTD’s 800 horsepower was “a lot,” but now we have a more specific number. The Mustang GTD has 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 202 mph. The wild 5.2-liter blown V-8 revs up to 7,650 rpm. As we’ve previously reported, you’ll have to fork out “about $325,000,” according to Ford, for the privilege of forking.
