The EcoSport has never been a terrific value, and the launch of the Ford Maverick pickup doesn’t help. Not only is the tiny truck more practical, but it is also less expensive and requires less fuel. The EcoSport inside is functional rather than stylish, which we can appreciate on lower-cost variants. Unfortunately, the cabin quality is subpar on top trims that cost nearly $30,000. Meanwhile, there is enough of passenger space up front but not so much in the back. The little Ford’s interior falls short of the luxurious cabins of the Kona and Kia Soul. The leather-wrapped steering wheel felt rubbery, while the majority of the plastic surfaces seemed rigid and hollow. The SES model has special leather-and-cloth seats and copper-colored accent elements.
Despite its small size, the 2026 Ford EcoSport offers competitive cargo capacity and storage. Most test results were average; the Ford proved to be a useful, albeit tiny, travel companion with a few handy gimmicks. It held fewer carry-on luggage than the Rogue Sport and Honda HR-V, but it had a larger capacity than the other comparable vehicles. The EcoSport includes a variety of interior storage areas, but none are particularly spacious. A sealable vent in the glovebox connects to the vehicle’s air conditioner, forming a climate-controlled chamber.

The 2026 Ford EcoSport is only available with a 166-horsepower four-cylinder engine, six-speed automated transmission, and all-wheel-drive. Still, it’s the reverse of rapid. The EcoSport performs much better at lower speeds, gliding through congested streets with ease, but the imprecise handling and loud ride detract from the overall experience.
While its ride cannot completely isolate the interior from uneven conditions, the softly sprung suspension of our Titanium test vehicle adequately protected occupants from the roughness. Too bad the spongy shocks and top-heavy disposition resulted in uncontrolled body movements. These impacts were more pronounced as the speed increased.
The brake pedal on our front-drive Titanium model never felt hard, but it provided constant response. One of the Ford’s few advantages is its towing capacity of 2000 pounds, which is more than most subcompact crossovers can handle.
Fuel Efficiency and Real-World MPG
Those who thought the “Eco” in EcoSport means economical will be disappointed. Its single powerplant and standard all-wheel-drive system are rated for 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
