2025 Ford Escape – By 2000, Ford had a lot of experience in SUVs, but the Escape appeared as a 2001 model and was Ford’s first crossover. Four years later, the Escape became Ford’s first plug-in hybrid model and the industry’s first crossover. Through four generations of design, what started out as a simple design that looked like a small Ford Explorer of the time evolved into a boxy contraption. Now, with the Bronco Sport equivalent feeding on the market side, the Escape has been released to be a sportier addition to the ST line of models and is efficient with various levels and hybrid versions as well as plug-in machines.
The Ford Escape is available with no less than four powertrains, including two gas engines, hybrids and plug-ins. Things start with the engine in the Active and ST-Line, which pulls very little with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost® turbocharged inline-3. It delivers between 180 and 199 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed transmission and sends power to the front wheels on the Active and front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) on the ST-Line. Good mileage is a feature of this engine, which is EPA rated 27/34/30 for city, highway and FWD driving. AWD ST-Line models are only rated at 26/32/28.

Other gas-powered models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost inline-4. This is the most powerful engine in the Escape model line, with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It’s also mated to an 8-speed transmission, and all models with this engine have all-wheel drive. EPA mpg estimates for this engine are 23/31/26.

The Escape Hybrid starts with a completely different engine in the form of a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4, combined with an electric motor for the hybrid system, which produces 192 horsepower for the entire system. Power is controlled by a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The system is FWD only on ST-Line and ST-Line Options. Conversely, it’s only related to the AWD engine on the ST-Line Elite, and on the Platinum, it’s available in both FWD and AWD. Fuel mileage is one of a kind, with 42 in the city and 36 on the highway for a combined figure of 39.
The Plug-in Hybrid model uses the same 2.5-liter engine and hybrid system, but has a larger 14.4 kWh battery and 3.5 kW charger. This will give you 37 miles of EV driving range only. If you can plug it in at home and your commute or daily commute is less than that amount, it can run as a zero-emissions EV for days and maybe even weeks without filling it up. Charging at night on a standard 120V outlet takes about 10.5 hours. When you run out of EV mileage, the vehicle automatically switches to hybrid mode, where it’s rated at 40 mpg combined. The plug-in hybrid is FWD only and, as standard, uses a CVT as a transmission.
The Escape features 4-wheel independent suspension with coilovers in the front and a multi-link system in the rear. Sports suspension is available on ST-Line models and is standard on ST-Line Select Elite models.
While the platform-sharing Bronco Sport is all straight and boxy, this fourth-generation Escape’s design goes in the opposite direction and shows off its curved body yet. It has a wider and longer track than its predecessors and also weighs, on average, about 200 pounds less. The long headlights and six-sided grille under the front fascia all suggest a sporty aesthetic rather than a sporty one.

The ST-Line Elite takes things a step further with an LED light on the side of the grill that almost completely integrates the LED lights into the LED light bar. All models sport alloy wheels, starting at 17 inches on the Active and growing to 18 inches on the rest of the line except for Platinum and ST-Elite, each of which rides on its own version of 19-inch wheels with mechanicals. – finish the rays on the back of the black.
Other features vary by trim level, with black glass surrounds on ST-Line models and chrome surrounds on Platinum models. The Panoramic Vista roof allows the sun to shine over the 1st and 2nd floors and is available on all levels.
The interior is classy, and your rear passengers can stretch out with more than 40 inches of room in the gas model. The hybrid reaches 38.9 centimeters. Shoulder room is also generous, at 57 inches in the front and 56 inches in the back. Up front, the easy-to-use hinge is easy to use and allows you to open up the cupboards and drawers, as well as the wireless installation page on the front of the cabinet.
On the gas model, there is 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which increases to 65.4 cubic feet with the seats down. The hybrid model requires less space for the battery, but not much: 34.4 cubic meters with all seats and 60.8 in cargo mode.

All models feature Ford’s SYNC 4 automatic infotainment system. This is the easiest, fastest and most intuitive system, and it is compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ if you want or are familiar with the Internet. SYNC 4 also includes Google’s voice recognition system, which allows you to issue arbitrary commands that will be understood for various car functions.
All occupants can stay connected with Fordpass® Connect and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, and USB ports can charge phones. The Platinum and ST-Line models also offer wireless charging and Qi wireless charging, which is a feature of many modern smartphones.
Two-way climate control is standard on the model line. From the ST-Line option, the Escape can be started remotely so the system can bring the cabin to your desired temperature before you even get in the car. The standard sound system consists of 6 speakers. None other than Bang & Olufsen offers a top sound system with ten speakers, including a subwoofer. The system is available on all models except the ST-Line.
Escape offers a variety of technologies for overall safety and long-distance driving. All models come standard with Pre-Collision Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. Other features available on most models include Adaptive Cruise Control to control speed and traffic and a lane keeping system, which uses warning and proactive measures to avoid accidents and keep the car in line. Traction control, ABS, a tire monitoring system, a rearview camera and full front and side airbags are standard on every Escape.
